ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My artwork generally implies landscape and is created mostly from materials found, mined or cut from the landscape. This is mainly achieved through construction with some degree of carving or shaping.  Over time, the appearance, texture and composition of these materials changes due to exposure to the atmosphere and it is often these contrasts that are emphasised in my work.

I have a particular interest in materials used in the construction industry, including timber, plywood, copper and lead - all of which have been highly processed or machined, presenting a challenge to return them to an original, natural appearance.

CURRICULUM VITAE

After a 40-year career in accountancy and financial services I commenced a 3 year degree course (BA [Hons] Fine Art) in 2012. I expect to graduate in summer 2015.

In the second year of my course I started to concentrate solely on sculpture and now only work with 3D materials.

1968 – 2003   A career in accountancy and financial services gaining now irrelevant varied qualifications. During the latter part of my career I was a partner in a major firm of commercial property consultants. I have been able to establish an excellent number of connections, which enable me to obtain empty commercial properties to be used for temporary ‘pop-up’ exhibitions. I have developed skills in obtaining temporary premises for art exhibitions and for related fund raising and sponsorship.

1991 - 1993 Chairman of Arts, Liverpool Artists Club. I was responsible for the organisation of and curating 4 exhibitions in each of the 3 years I held this position. I was also responsible for appointing an artist to paint the annual President’s portrait.

2012 – 2015 Student at Wirral Metropolitan College studying for BA (Hons) Fine Art.

2012 One of 3 students commissioned by Chemicals NorthWest to create 9 trophies for presentation at their annual awards ceremony.
